College roundup: Viterbo falls short to Waldorf in DH

.
The Viterbo University softball team came close to earning a win, or even a sweep, over MCC-leading Waldorf on Saturday, but the Vikings instead won a pair of eight-inning games, 6-4 and 3-2, at the Viterbo Athletic Complex.

Waldorf pitcher Chelsea Dougherty struck out 12 batters in the first game while allowing her only runs on solo homers by Jen Pintz and Betsy Ward.
The Vikings (29-10, 19-3) scored in the top of the eighth on Laura Read’s RBI single that followed a hit by pitch, error and sacrifice bunt.

In the second game, the V-Hawks (7-25, 3-15) rallied to tie the game after falling behind 4-0, but Waldorf scored two runs in the eighth on a Read homer. Kacey Moline had three hits for the V-Hawks.

Dougherty also won the second game, pitching two perfect innings of relief.

" Still more info, if you check the play by play. This infielder did not have any of these errors charged against her. This was not the first time the stats were not represented in the way the game was played. IT is time to get a coach that knows the game. "

" The Viterbo Softball team should have won these games. A coach would have helped. The game is ties runners on first and third with only one out. The two coaches just looked at each other and never sent the girl from first to second. Better yet one player that has three errors in the infield and she was never told a word or pulled from the game. Hey she has never been told anything about sitting back and waiting for ground ball to come to her instead of charging the play. "
