James ‘JB’ H. Blaschko

ARCADIA, Wis. — James “JB” H. Blaschko, 61, of Arcadia passed away Sunday, April 20, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

He was born in St. Peter, Minn., on Nov. 10, 1946, to Harold and Irene (Dailey) Blaschko. On April 26, 1969, Jim married Janice Skroch.

He is survived by his wife, Janice of Arcadia; three children, Brian (Debbie) and Brady, both of Arcadia, and Jennifer (Josh) Eager of Farmington, Minn.; five grandchildren, Payton, Mackenzie, Easton, Ethan and Ella; three brothers, David (Shelby) of Independence, Wis., and Charles (Jo) and Allan (Karen), both of Arcadia; two sisters, Lori (Tom) Herbert of Onalaska, Wis., and Lisa (Bob) Guza of Independence, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Jim in death were his parents and two brothers, Dale and Gordon.

In 1955, the Blaschko family moved from Le Center, Minn., to Arcadia and bought a partnership in the newspaper. They were also a major printer for the School Form & Supply Company. Jim graduated from Arcadia High School in 1964 and proudly served his country in the National Guard from 1964 to 1970. Under Jim’s direction, the Supreme School Supply division of Blaschko Enterprises was opened in 1967. In 1992, ownership of Blaschko Enterprises transferred from HB to Jim, Chuck and Al. Jim celebrated his 40th year with the company in 2007.

Jim was an active member in the Arcadia Lions Club for many years, and in 2002 he and Janice were chosen to be the Festmasters of Arcadia Broiler Days. He was also a proud member of the American Legion and Knights of Columbus.

Jim was the most dedicated Packers, Brewers and Badgers fan you could ever meet. His love for the Packers was as great as his dislike for the Vikings. He was extremely knowledgeable about all sports and had some pretty good luck with his “numbers.”

On any given weekend you could find Jim with family and friends playing cards or the board games Sorry! or Monopoly. In his later years, he spent many hours watching “Gunsmoke,” “Bonanza” and keeping up on current political issues. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and, not to be forgotten, his favorite furry friends, first Murphy and then Skeeter.

Jim fought a long courageous battle and was strong until the end. You’ll never find a man who could endure so much pain without a complaint and with such a positive attitude. His wife, Janice, is to be commended for her many years of continuous love, care and dedication. Jim always put his family and friends’ needs before his own. He had a very deep faith in the Lord and love for his family. He will be missed by many but forgotten by no one.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 24, at Holy Family Parish, Arcadia, with Father Michael Klos officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Arcadia. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Holy Family Parish, where there will be a 7 p.m. prayer service. They may also call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
