Find spot for an iPod accessory in every room

.
In the year, oh, let’s say 2014, iPods around the world will simultaneously become self-aware. They will rise up to annihilate mankind and take over the planet. The evidence is all around us.

The iPods aren’t just for hipsters’ pockets anymore. It’s a scary thought, considering the future that awaits us, but there are iPod accessories for every area of your home, and we mean every area.

THE POOL

Digital watches taught us the difference between “waterproof” and “water resistant.” We’re much more savvy now. Not gonna fall for that one again. Which is why the EGO Waterproof Sound Case with Speakers is so appealing. Pop in your ’pod and fear nothing. It floats in your pool and can sink down as far as 3.3 feet (so it’s probably not a “deep end” iPod dock). You can access the iPod dial through the case’s clear cover and change songs/settings without removing the iPod.

$80 at Amazon.com

THE PATIO

George Foreman must be a music lover. His latest indoor/outdoor grill/roaster comes iPod ready. It has 200 inches of grilling surface and a speaker and amplifier, and it works with other MP3 players, too. Get your groove on while you get your barbecue on.

THE BATHROOM

For those who enjoy music while on the throne, the Atech Flash iCarta iPod dock is the way to, um, go. It doubles as a toilet-paper holder, features four small speakers and charges your iPod/iPhone. For you readers, we’re thinking digital books might be in order.

$70 at www.atechflash.com

THE GARAGE

Getting the ol’ band back together? You’ll need a heavy-duty digital music player like the Portable Outdoor iPod Sound System. This one features rugged aluminum construction with chrome corner covers and metal handles. Plus, you can dock your iPod and play its library through the 18-watt amplifier, 8-inch woofer and 1-inch tweeter.

THE KITCHEN

The DVD Kitchen Radio with iPod Dock is a space-saving all-in-one solution to the problem of having too many media devices to juggle. Not only does it play audio and video from such sources as your iPod and DVDs, but it also works as a digital TV and features both a clock and food timer. It comes with a remote control, and it hangs from the underside of a cabinet.

THE DEN

When Dad isn’t busy building ships in bottles (or whatever it is that Dads do in dens), he can convert his old record collection to a more modern format with the LP to Digital Music Converter. The belt-driven turntable plays records at 33- and

45-rpm speeds and saves songs to MP3 format directly to a late-model iPod. Or, if you’d rather, plug the unit into your computer and save songs to your hard drive.

$190 at www.hammacher.com

THE LIVING ROOM

For the nerve center of your home, you might want to try the Eos wireless audio system. Eos can broadcast your iPod content to as many as four satellite speakers spread around the house. The control console has a range of 150 feet and can send signals through walls and ceilings.

$250 (for a base station and one

satellite speaker system) at

www.eoswireless.com

THE KID’S ROOM

The iCat is the ultimate in robotic music-loving felines, according to Amazon.com. Plug iCat into your music player, and watch as Kitty rocks and rolls. Different music styles evoke different moves, and you can scratch iCat’s head to add DJ-style scratching noises to your tunes.
