Published - Sunday, May 11, 2008 Presidency isn’t hereditary Why do the Clintons, both Hillary and Bill, seem to think that they have to totally destroy Sen. Barack Obama in the primary contest? Certainly they can’t believe that the country would be better off with another four years of Bush and Cheney under a President John McCain, than it would be in a real change of four years with President Obama. Have the Clintons forgotten that this is not a hereditary autocracy where the presidency can be handed off from family member to family member. We have tried that system with Bush senior and Bush junior, and the results are horrifying. We had Bush senior followed by Bill Clinton, followed by Bush junior. We have to be careful not to develop an hereditary autocracy. The presidency and the White House cannot be treated as private property to be handed off to a family.
