Woodlands are being cut back, replaced with homes and businesses. Highways cut through woodlands and hills, forcing animals to cross their paths, creating a roadside of dead carcasses daily. Waste and garbage makes its way to lakes and streams, killing fish and fowl, tampering with their immune systems and making them sick. That brings me to the “man-created” geese fiasco.
For generations, the geese have lived in harmony with nature, nested near our lakes and streams, brought their precious babies to the shoreline as though on parade, astonishing us with their whimsical ways. It was just a matter of time before a handful of people decided they were not welcome. The golf course has taken a higher place of importance in the Sparta community. The golfers are getting their shoes dirty. So, a group of people have decided that the geese should be slaughtered. What a brilliant idea. Slaughter the geese so you don’t get your shoes dirty.
Stop the killing of the geese. I plead with any level-headed person with a heart to get involved in stopping this atrocity. We need to set a good example for our children. In your hearts, you have to know it’s wrong.
