Stop torturing prisoners

Four years ago, we first learned of the torture and cruel treatment at Abu Ghraib and other military prisons. Now we have learned that senior Bush officials met or are meeting inside the White House in order to develop “enhanced” interrogation techniques for the CIA.

This is in spite of the outcry and demand for change from many Americans. It may be too late to achieve any meaningful change before we elect a new administration. However, we have the opportunity to vote for new leaders who will not only put an end to such inhumanity, but who will initiate in our country, and through the United Nations in all countries, a respect for human dignity and the right to sufficient livelihoods for all peoples.
