Evelyn Kokott, 84, was killed in the crash, while husband Alphonse Kokott, 91, died Sunday.
The Kokotts were with their daughter, Sharon, and her husband, Ted Jackson, who were visiting for Mother’s Day from Kenosha, Wis., when the crash happened just before
7 p.m. on Hwy. 93 at Lewis Valley Road, according to the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Department.
Both Jacksons were in critical condition Sunday, Ted with a punctured lung and Sharon with multiple broken bones, said the Kokotts’ nephew, Joseph Kokott.
Three vehicles were involved, according to the sheriff’s department. One other person was taken to a hospital. No other information was available Sunday.
Joseph Kokott, 78, saw his aunt and uncle Saturday at St. Peter and Paul Church in Independence, Wis. He said the crash happened after the Kokotts went to an Independence supper club.
“They were very nice people,” Joseph said. “They were friends to everybody.”
He said they married when Evelyn was 16 and Alphonse 24. Alphonse farmed. Evelyn worked at restaurants and factories while taking care of the couple’s two children. Their son, Dennis, died from a heart attack at age 48.
Alphonse also was a carpenter for many years. The Kokotts had a small hobby farm.
“They lived to a ripe old age. You have to look at the bright side,” Joseph said. “They died together. They didn’t have to go into a nursing home.”
