We need a grand push to the left

When Oedipus saw that his actions had unwittingly brought disaster to his country, he did not attempt to excuse himself by saying, “I didn’t know.” Rather, his shame over the consequences of his ignorance caused him to tear out his own eyes.

I don’t necessarily think that those who voted for George Bush and who supported his disastrous war in Iraq should put out their eyes, but I do think they owe it our nation to grieve over the terrible consequences of their choices and to think past the silly spin and conservative brainwashing coming from the mainstream media concerning our presidential election.

Our problems — as human beings, not just as Americans — are too dire to waste any more time on flag pins, etc. A grand, historical push to the left, from the competition paradigm to the cooperation paradigm is needed if we’re going to preserve our life on this planet.

As the most powerful nation in the world, we’ve all got a responsibility to educate ourselves this time and elect a candidate who’s not just a shill for the hyper-wealthy, big oil and the military industrial complex. Let’s not get fooled again.
