Police: Teen who hit tree was drunk

.
An underage drinker was arrested after driving a car into a tree outside the La Crosse Police Department early Saturday morning, according to a police report.

The 17-year-old female driver and two passengers had been drinking alcohol in Copeland and Riverside parks, according to the report.
At about 3:45 a.m., the car was northbound on Fourth Street when it struck a tree about 100 feet south of the police station, according to the report. A male passenger fled on foot but was apprehended by police.

The three sustained minor injuries, and the driver, whose preliminary breath test indicated a 0.126 percent blood-alcohol concentration, was admitted to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.

She was arrested for causing injury while operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, according to the report.

" Looks like the alcohol task force was a WASTE of time. Try as you might to blame the bars and create a ghost town in downtown LaCrosse by cracking the whip on responsible legal drinkers (95%), responsible beverage servers (99%) and small business owners ALL in the name of stopping underage and binge drinkers, YOU STILL HAVE problems like this girls. Bruiser's got 2 tickets the first week they were open and they had NOTHING to do with the drownings! "

" How many of you can honestly say that you have NEVER drove under the influence? Lamplighter? Be honest now. "

" The 'lucky' drunk drivers get stopped/arrested by cops and the other drunk drivers are less fortunate as they plow into trees, poles, buildings and other cars, with injuries and death and property damage the predictable result. "

" free_speech needs this to happen to someone he or she loves / family member / best friend / hunting buddy or just someone close for this person to GET IT that this is a REAL HAPPENING with REAL FEELINGS. Then we'll hear a different garbble coming from the mouth. "

" someone who gets caught for hurting anyone while drinking, and driving should be banned from driving for life.. there is no excuses for it.. especially when most bars have a safe ride program, and they can ride for free, but even if u have to pay it is cheaper than a d.u.i, and taking someone's..i know this girl was only 17, and not old enough to drink, but they were old enough to take a cab.. someday they will get some brains!! " Replace "tree" with my son's father-in-law and "3:45 am" with 11 PM and you have an eerily similar drunk driving "accident" that has left him seriously physically impaired for life. When will these kids start to get it. This girl is very lucky she did not ruin someone's life and her own. The young woman who hit my son's father-in-law was convicted of two felonies and lost not only her significant college scholarships but also her potential career in medicine. Oh, and she served a year in prison. Somehow it did not seem to be enough for the damage she did. "
