Published - Tuesday, May 20, 2008 Man injured when hit by deputy’s car SPARTA, Wis. — A 31-year-old Fort Atkinson, Wis., man was taken to a La Crosse hospital after walking down a highway and being struck by a Monroe County Sheriff’s deputy on Monday, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol. The man — whose name was not released pending notification of family members — was walking in the southbound lane of Hwy. 21 about .20 miles south of Hwy. X with his back to traffic when he was hit by the deputy’s squad car. The deputy attempted to avoid the man, but struck him with the side mirror. The man was taken to Franciscan Skemp Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
