Published - Wednesday, May 21, 2008 Man injured when hit by deputy’s car SPARTA, Wis. — A 31-year-old Fort Atkinson, Wis., man was taken to a La Crosse hospital after being struck Monday night by a Monroe County Sheriff’s deputy while walking on a highway, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol. The man, whose name was not released, was walking with his back to traffic in the southbound lane of Hwy. 27 just south of Hwy. X about 9:25 p.m. when he was struck, the state patrol stated. The deputy attempted to avoid the man but hit him with the side mirror. The man was taken to Franciscan Skemp Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, according to the state patrol.
