RNC protesters reveal transportation plan

.
ST. PAUL (AP) — A fringe group that has vowed to create chaos during the Republican National Convention has posted convention travel plans on its Web site.

The plan is a PowerPoint presentation called “GOP Express” and it details the drop-off points and routes for the thousands of delegates who will attend the convention, which runs from Sept. 1-4.
The plan was not meant to be made public.

“Does it concern me that information got out that wasn’t meant for the public? Sure it does,” said Pete Panos, of the St. Paul Police.

However, police also said the document, which is dated March 5, is already outdated and the incident is not considered a security breach.

The Web site of the self-described anarchist group, the RNC Welcoming Committee, lists tactics for disrupting the event and encourages members to block downtown streets and bridges.

Online posts indicate the Welcoming Committee plans 15 to 20 downtown blockades of major bridges and intersections and hopes to “immobilize the delegates’ transportation infrastructure, including the buses that are to convey them.”

Panos said the group’s intentions to illegally disrupt the convention are more worrying than the leak of the logistics document.

“Every group that shows violence to a peaceful protest concerns us because they are the catalyst that could cause more problems,” Panos said.

A spokesman for the convention wouldn’t say whether the document is authentic but did say the transportation plan is still being developed.

RNC spokesman Matt Burns said the convention delegates shouldn’t worry. “We remain confident that we’re going to have a safe and successful convention,” he said.
