Published - Saturday, July 05, 2008 Minnesota troops to return home from Kosovo ALBERT LEA, Minn. — A group of Minnesota National Guard soldiers are expected to return home next week from their peacekeeping mission in Kosovo. The 400 soldiers are from the 2nd Battalion, 135th Infantry Regiment, which is headquartered in Mankato. The troops will arrive in Wisconsin on Sunday morning and will be reunited with their families during events next week. The D Company, which is based in Albert Lea, will be among the troops returning. Freeborn County Sheriff Mark Harig says local officials are planning for the homecoming to take place sometime between July 10 and July 14. The guard unit has been working in Kosovo with the international force whose mission is to keep the area violence-free. Kosovo declared its independence in February. Before that it had been a province of Serbia.
