Published - Saturday, July 19, 2008 Arrest made in New Brighton shooting NEW BRIGHTON, Minn. (AP) — Ramsey County prosecutors have charged a 21-year-old man with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a 48-year-old woman outside a home in the Minneapolis suburb of New Brighton on Thursday. Police said officers in Rochester found the Corey Lee Gaustad's vehicle and then at 5:15 a.m. Friday entered a local hotel and found Gaustad asleep. He was arrested without incident. A handgun believed to have been used in the shooting was found, and a second handgun was in the suspect's vehicle. The victim was shot in the abdomen about 3:30 p.m. Thursday and died at Unity Hospital about 7:40 p.m. John Ellickson, deputy director for the New Brighton police, said it appears Gaustad ambushed the woman and her 17-year-old daughter. He shot at her, too, but missed. He apparently was upset because he was told the daughter was not interested in dating him, police said. Gaustad could not be reached for comment Friday night.
