Published - Saturday, July 19, 2008 Marinette County tanker crash kills 1 AMBERG, Wis. (AP) — Residents of a Marinette County community were told to stay in their homes and take precautions Friday after a car collided with a tanker truck believed to be carrying methanol, killing the motorist. A placard on the truck said it was carrying the highly flammable and poisonous liquid, but Kathy Franks of Wisconsin Emergency Management said the state Department of Natural Resources later confirmed the tanker was empty. Chief Deputy Jerry Slauve of the Marinette County Sheriff's Department said the car's driver was killed in the crash. The victim's name was not released. The accident happened about 12:30 p.m. at an intersection along U.S. 141 in the town of Amberg. The alert urging people in the area to stay inside was canceled about 5:05 p.m.
