VIROQUA, Wis. Deloris Hokland, 85, of Viroqua died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at Vernon Memorial Hospital, Viroqua.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Viroqua. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, rural Viroqua. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, Viroqua, and 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the church.

Beverly L. Ames
LA CRESCENT, Minn. Beverly L. Ames, 79, of La Crescent passed away peacefully in La Crescent on Monday, July 28, 2008.
She was born in La Crosse on Aug. 8, 1928, to John and Ida (Wikel) Harris. On Sept. 15, 1948, she married Dallas Ames at the Presbyterian Church in La Crescent. He preceded her in death Sept. 30, 2004. Beverly had worked as a dog groomer in La Crescent for more than 25 years. She was an avid booster of the La Crescent Lancers and enjoyed puzzles, knitting, playing bridge and collecting china cats. She was a member and past president of Gittens Leidel American Legion Auxiliary and especially enjoyed the time she spent with her Wednesday morning coffee group of which she was a part for 50 years. She was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Beverly is survived by her four children, Salie (Gary) Schuweiler of Owatonna, Minn., Larry (Bridgid) Ames of La Crescent, Susan Ames of
La Crescent and Sandee Ames of Minneapolis; nine grandchildren, Paul, Peter, Lucas and Samuel Schuweiler, and John, Elizabeth, Kaitlan, Alison and Michael Ames; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and P.J. Schuweiler; her sister-in-law, Maxine Mueller; niece, Kris (Tom) Holdorf; nephew, Scott (Debra) Harris; her dogs, “Pennie” and “Theodore;” and her cat, “Daisey.” In addition to her beloved husband, Dallas, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, two brothers-in-law, and many, many good friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church of La Crescent. Pastor Jim Arends will officiate. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, La Crescent. Friends may call at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of services Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be given to the La Crescent animal rescue program.

Ruell M. DeGarmo
CHASEBURG, Wis. Ruell M. DeGarmo, 90, of rural Chaseburg died Monday, July 28, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.
He was born Jan. 13, 1918, to Carl and Elizabeth (Henry) DeGarmo in rural De Soto, Wis. Ruell married Viola Veglahn on June 29, 1937. She died in 1939. He then married Darlene Halverson on Feb. 20, 1941, in Dubuque, Iowa. She died in 1990.
Ruell operated DeGarmo Livestock for many years. Through the years he also farmed and ran various businesses including feed, trucking, restaurant, tavern and service station. He retired in 1978. Ruell enjoyed watching his son, Marv, race at local tracks and watching NASCAR. He and his family also enjoyed spending time at their cottage in Hatfield, Wis. He was a lifelong member of St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stoddard, Wis.
Survivors include two daughters, Jo Ann Nickelatti of Genoa, Wis., and Eldora (Lyle) Bohland of Janesville, Wis.; two sons, Marvin (Linda) DeGarmo of Chaseburg and Mark (Rebecca) of Mankato, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and special family friend Lois Phillips.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Tammi DeGarmo in 1978; a son-in-law, Ray Nickelatti in 1997; five brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 31, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Stoddard. The Rev. James Krueger will officiate, with burial in German Lower Bad Axe Cemetery, rural Genoa. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley, Wis., and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time.
Madonna M. Tracy
Madonna M. Tracy, 92, of La Crosse died at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center in La Crosse on Saturday, July 26, 2008.
She was born in La Crosse on March 22, 1916, to Joseph and Marie (Linkemeyer) DeBettignes. She was a graduate of Logan High School. Madonna married Ross Tracy in La Crosse on July 23, 1940, and he preceded her in death Oct. 21, 1988.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann (Mark) Erickson of Onalaska, Wis.; two sons, Richard (Mary) Tracy of La Crosse and Jim (Mary) Tracy of Onalaska; six grandchildren, Sandra Drendel, Susan Rudesill, Shannon Schneider, Mark Tracy, Michelle Tracy and Erick Nelson; and seven great-grandchildren, Derek Tracy, Hogan Schneider, Olivia Schneider, Peyton Schneider, Travis Rudesill, Ricci Rudesill and Scott Rudesill.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
Madonna met the love of her life, Ross Tracy at the Avalon Ballroom, and they were married for 49 years. She had been employed at the Autolite, Sew N’ Sew and Doerflinger’s. She loved her flower garden, and was an avid craftsperson and seamstress. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, St. Thomas More Church, La Crosse. Family and friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of services Friday. The Rev. Douglas Robertson will officiate and entombment will be in St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum, Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Mary Mother of the Church Parish at St. Thomas More Church or The Riverside International Friendship Gardens.

Claire W. Kunes
MELROSE, Wis. Claire W. Kunes, 84, of Melrose passed away Sunday, July 27, 2008, at Black River Memorial Hospital, Black River Falls, Wis.
He was born Nov. 27, 1923, in Melrose to Forrest and Amy (Heineck) Kunes.
Claire was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, camping and working in his yard. He worked for Mathy Construction of 35 years until his retirement. He was a past member of the Melrose Rod and Gun Club and Melrose Volunteer Fire Department. He also served on the Melrose Village Board.
Claire is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lorraine; his daughters, Sherry (Ed) Gilbertson and Cheryl Kunes (Mike Green); three grandchildren, Kathy Helgeson, Steve Gilbertson and Ayla Kunes; five great-grandchildren, Dante Ortiz, Ellen and Bryce Barrett, and Forrest and Ilena Gilbertson; three sisters, Margaret Parlow, Doris Craig and Elaine (Lemuel) Olson; a brother, Robert (Marlene) Kunes; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Kunes; two sisters-in-law, Eloda Kunes and Joanna Kunes; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Kunes; a granddaughter, Danielle Kunes; and two brothers, Warren and Richard Kunes.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 31, at Melrose United Methodist Church, Melrose, with the Rev. Kathleen Jury officiating. Burial will be in Melrose Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time.

July 28, 2008, at Crestridge Nursing Home, Maquoketa.

LaVon Ruth (Mason) Rom
LAS VEGAS LaVon Ruth (Mason) Rom, 80, passed away Friday, July 25, 2008, at Healthcare Odyssey in Las Vegas.
She was born April 21, 1928, in La Crosse to Laverne B. and Viola Ruth (Quiggle) Mason. She graduated from Logan High School in January 1946. She was married to Paul William Rom on Aug. 14, 1948, at Bethany Evangelical Free Church, La Crosse, by Pastor Otto Larsen.
In her younger years, she was active at Bethany Church in the Sunday school, confirmation class of 1941, youth group, choir member and pianist.
The family moved from La Crosse to California in 1956. Paul and LaVon moved to Las Vegas in 1991.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; two daughters, Paulette of North Carolina and Tammy Jo of Las Vegas; one son, Paul Jr. of California; and several grandchildren.
A memorial service for the family was held at Healthcare Odyssey with the hospice chaplain officiating. The Neptune Society was in charge of burial.
Carroll L. Sacia
GALESVILLE, Wis. Carroll L. Sacia, 85, of Galesville died Monday, July 28, 2008, at Marinuka Manor, Galesville.
He was born Jan. 16, 1923, to Lee and Millie (Parks) Sacia. He married Wanda Harris on June 10, 1944. He graduated from Galesville High School. In his early years, he farmed and later went to work for Tru Gas and Northern Investment Cos. of Indpendence, Wis.
He had a great love for music and played professionally for the Louie Schuth band of Winona, Minn., and later he helped organize and played saxophone with the Kleinsmen. He was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, Galesville, where he served as an elder.
Carroll enjoyed being involved in many community organizations. He was a member of the Galesville Lions Club, Trempealeau County Fair Board, Galesville Masonic Lodge, Galesville Housing Commission, Galesville Curling Club, where he served as president for several years, and the Galesville Chamber of Commerce, where he helped organize the Farmer’s Market. He loved attending Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau sporting events.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda, of 64 years; their children, Sandi (Rick) Auseth, Dick (Char) Sacia, Pam (Ike) Frommelt and Greg (Mary) Sacia; a son-in-law, Loren Kannenberg; a brother, Jack (Beverly) Sacia; eight grandchildren, Ken, Shawn, Jeremy, Emily, Brian, Brook, Michelle and Morgan; seven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Sharon; three grandchildren, Jill and Julie Auseth and Kelly Kannenberg; four brothers, Gerald, Wendell, Merlin and Otis; and two sisters, Lorna Betz and Leone Smith.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 31, at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Galesville. The Rev. Michael Hibbs will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Cliff Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today and from noon until time of services Thursday.

Floyd L. Gulso
BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. Floyd L. Gulso, 62, of Black River Falls passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at his home due to complications with multiple sclerosis. He was under the care of Black River Hospice.
Floyd was born on March 29, 1946, in Hutchinson, Minn., to Richard and Ruby (Arnleend) Gulso. He was raised at Dassel, Minn., and later moved to Caledonia, Minn. While growing up, Floyd spent summers at the family farm at Dassel.
He graduated from Caledonia High School and Winona (Minn.) State University. He later earned his masters degree from Winona State.
Floyd married Rhoda Galstad on July 19, 1970, at First Lutheran Church, Blair, Wis. The couple first lived in rural Alma Center, Wis., before settling in Black River Falls.
He was employed as a math teacher at Taylor High School for 13 years. For the 20 years preceding his retirement in 2001, Floyd was employed as a math instructor at Western Wisconsin Technical College (now Western Technical College).
Survivors include his wife, Rhoda; a son, John (Laura) Gulso of Black River Falls; a daughter, Ann (Josh) Schram of Elk Mound, Wis.; two brothers, George (Arlene) Gulso of Mound, Minn., and Harold (Shauna) Gulso of Bountiful, Utah; two brothers-in-law, Dohn Galstad of Blair and Terry (Kathy) Galstad of Burlington, Wis.; five nieces; and three nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 2, at 11 a.m., at Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls. Chaplain Kevin Newell will officiate.
Family and friends are invited for visitation Friday, Aug. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Buswell Funeral Home. Also, family and friends are invited for visitation on Saturday, Aug. 2, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
