Richard K. Burley, 46, of La Crosse died July 13, 2008.
He was born in New York but spent many years in California. He made La Crosse his home in 2006. Rick will be remembered by family and friends for his humor, generous nature and love of cooking.
No services were held. His ashes will be taken to California in January. He will be greatly missed.

Pearle “Pearle Mae” M. Garzee, 84, of La Crosse died Thursday, July 31, 2008, at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Woodruff-Jandt Funeral Home in La Crosse.

TOMAH/SPARTA, Wis. — Donald J. Rattle, 73, of Tomah and formerly of Sparta died Thursday, July 31, 2008, at Tomah Health Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tomah. Burial will be in the church cemetery. WATERVILLE, Iowa — John F. Donahue, 73, of Waterville died Thursday, July 31, 2008, at his home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Pius at Cherry Mound Catholic Church in rural Harpers Ferry, Iowa. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Joseph W. Dahlby
RACINE, Wis. — Joseph W. Dahlby, 74, passed away, due to multiple myeloma, at his residence Thursday,
July 31, 2008, surrounded by his family. He was born in Black River Falls, Wis., on Feb. 1, 1934, the son of the late Clifford and Wilma (nee Hoeft) Dahlby.
Joe served his country with the U.S. Air Force from 1951 until 1958. On Dec. 27, 1958, he was united in marriage to the former Nona Humble at
St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sparta, Wis. He received his degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and his master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Joe taught sixth grade in the Racine Unified School District for more than 35 years. He taught at Winslow, Franklin, Olympia-Brown and Starbuck schools. He developed the creative writing program for the district. Joe was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, the Racine Dairystatesmen and the Church Singers. Joe loved baking and cooking. He provided both the REST and HALO programs with his home cooked meals. He baked bread and sold it as Joe’s Doughs for the Relay for Life. Joe was very involved with the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. In 1999, Joe was honored as The Man of the Year by the VFW. He also enjoyed traveling, woodworking; making candlesticks, doll furniture, assorted carvings, painting murals, singing and napping. His favorite hobby was being involved with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Nona; their children, Brenda (David) Olmstead, Jane (Donald) Christensen, Katrina (Michael) Koester, all of Franksville, Wis., Kurt (Gina) Dahlby of Mansfield, Ohio; son-in-law, David Simington of Racine; 13 grandchildren, Jacqueline (Patrick) Pingel, Jacob (fiancée Stephanie Cully) Olmstead, Melisa, Kylie, Ben and Heidi Christensen, Emily and Tate Koester, Hans and Erika Dahlby, Gabrielle Hirth, and David and Earl Simington; two great-grandchildren, Katherine and Lillian Pingel; brothers and sisters, Roger (Bev) Dahlby of Whitehall, Wis., Larry (Linda) Dahlby of Sparta, Wis., Rosemary (Richard) Davis of Delavan, Wis., David (Daeng) Dahlby of Maui, Joyce (Walt) Sanders of Sparta, Paul Dahlby of La Crosse, and Fred (Diane) Dahlby and Mary Kay Spicci, all of Sparta; and brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard (Diane) Humble of Lillian, Fla., and Jackie Dahlby of Indianapolis. His nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends also survive Joe.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Simington; brothers, David and John Dahlby; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Shirley and Bob Sorenson.
His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Ave., Racine, with the Revs. Dr. Warren D. Williams and Denise Mbsie officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home in Racine and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of the services. Burial with full military honors will be in West Lawn Memorial Park.
The family has suggested memorials to either Atonement Lutheran Church or American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
The family would like to publicly thank Dr. Marcelo Pasquini and his staff as well as the entire nursing staff of 4C at the Zablocki V.A. Medical Center for the extraordinary care, love and dignity given Joe and his family.
Francis B. Richgels
LANCASTER, Wis. — Francis B. Richgels, 90, of Lancaster died Thursday, July 31, 2008, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center in Madison.
He was born on June 7, 1918, in Fennimore, Wis., the son of Barney and Elizabeth (Bunzel) Richgels. On Sept. 2, 1941, Francis married Catherine Weber at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Madison. She died March 18, 1997. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his service in the army, Francis and Catherine became residents of Lancaster, where he became an independent insurance agent in 1952 and owned and operated the F.B. Richgels Agency until 1975, when the agency name was changed to the Richgels Schaefer Agency Inc. Francis retired from the insurance business in 1992.
Francis was active in the Independent Insurance Agents Association of Wisconsin and the Southwest Wisconsin Insurance Agents Association. He served on the Lancaster Zoning Board of Appeals for 20 years and as a volunteer for the cancer drives and the United Way. He was also a board member of the Grant Regional Health Center Foundation, where he was instrumental in initiating the health center golf outing, which continues as an annual event. In 1987, Francis served as co-chairman of the Capital Fundraising Campaign for the current health center. He was a member of
St. Clement Catholic Church, where he served as a parish trustee on the finance committee and on the Special Gifts Campaign. Francis served as a member of the Diocesan Strategic Planning Committee and was a member and former grand knight of Knights of Columbus Council No. 2820.
Survivors include his children, Bernadette Ann (Thomas) Schaefer and Kathryn Elizabeth (Robert) Mumm, both of Lancaster, Thomas Bernard (Karla) Richgels of Madison, Paul Anthony (Jayne) Richgels of De Forest, Wis., Michael Joseph (Ann) Richgels of Onalaska, Wis., and Teresa Ruth (Loren) Alderson of Fennimore, Wis.; 27 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one son-in-law, Al Turner of Rockville, Md.; and two brothers, Lawras Richgels of Madison and Jerome (Ann) Richgels of North St. Paul.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Francis was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Frances Turner; a great-granddaughter, Caitlin Elizabeth Recker; as well as two sisters and five brothers.
Francis’s greatest joy in life was his family and his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster, with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial will be at St. Clement Cemetery in Lancaster. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Monday, Aug. 4, at the church.

Lois P. Moen
TAMPA. Fla./LA CRESCENT, Minn. — Lois Peterson Moen passed peacefully Thursday, July 31, 2008, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, Wis., after suffering a stroke Sunday, July 20, 2008.
Lois was born on Aug. 13, 1920, in Duluth, Minn., to Carl and Agnes (Hanson) Peterson. She graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1938. Lois worked as a bookkeeper for the YWCA in Duluth and later worked for the Norwegian Consulate.
She married Edmund Olaf Moen on Oct. 26, 1040, and celebrated 53 years of marriage to the “love of her life.” Lois and Eddie moved from Duluth to
La Crescent in 1959 and later moved to Bradenton, Fla. She moved to Tampa in 2004. Lois and Eddie spent many years traveling the world and enjoyed the many friends they met along the way.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Moen of Tampa; her daughter, Kristen Harring of Onalaska, Wis. (fiance Dr. James Graf); and her three beloved grandchildren, Nicholas, Benjamin and Alyssa Harring, all of Onalaska, and their father, Nick Harring of Viroqua, Wis. She is further
survived by her dear friend, Dale Melvin of Tampa; her sister, Jean Pearson of Edina, Minn; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie, on March 3, 1994; her parents, Carl and Agnes; and her two sisters, Arlene Larson and Marjorie Hedberg, both of Duluth, Minn.
Lois was a positive and happy person and lived life to the fullest right to the end. She will be missed and loved by all.
A memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at United Methodist Church in La Crescent. Visitation will be 5:30 p.m. to services Monday at the church. A memorial service will also be held at a later date in Tampa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Hospice Hope of Fond du Lac or Gundersen Lutheran Hospice of La Crosse.
