GOP candidate Stark touts sales tax, domestic oil

Congressional hopeful Paul Stark said the U.S. tax code and the high price of gas will be his top priorities if elected to represent Wisconsin this fall.

Stark, a former contractor and CPA, is challenging Democrat incumbent Ron Kind for the 3rd Congressional District seat.

The tax code is “a huge mess” and should be replaced with a consumption tax, the Eau Claire Republican said Wednesday at a taping of WLSU’s “Newsmakers” radio show.

Stark also advocated drilling for oil in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Opening up the federal land to oil companies would prompt other countries to increase oil production, thus driving down prices, he said.
