Court rejects suit opposing religion in veterans' care

.
MADISON — An appeals court says taxpayers cannot sue over the Department of Veterans Affairs' integration of religion into its health care programs for the nation's veterans.

The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals says the Madison-based Freedom From Religion Foundation has no legal standing to bring the case.
The group was challenging the agency's practice of asking patients about their religion, the increasing use of chaplains to treat patients, and drug and alcohol treatment programs that incorporate religion. It claimed those practices violated the separation of church and state.

But the court says taxpayers cannot challenge those expenditures since Congress did not specifically authorize them.

" Finally! A judge with some common sense. It's about time somebody shut down the FFR right from the get go. Three cheers for the decision makers on this one, let's see more of it. "

" These FFR people are costing us taxpayers money everytime they bring a suit for some frivolous reason. Get a real job! "

" It may interest you to know ('though you probably won't believe it) that there are RELGIOUS adherents who belong to FFR. Also, it may interest you to know that members of FFR DO INDEED work with flood victims, send aid (and go in person) overseas.

FFR members don't wear uniforms or badges identifying themselves. Simply because it is assumed that FFR folk are against everything and do no good does not mean it is a correct assumption. "

" FFR: Where is YOUR drug and alcohol abuse prevention and treatment program? Where were YOU when the floods hit? Where are YOUR PEOPLE when it comes to sending aid to impoverished countries? I know religious organizations were there helping.

Follow the money and I'll bet you'll find some fat cats at the top of your organization with hefty salaries. "

" FFR I hate you people, destroying everything that this country was built on. "

" Hey FFR leave them Vets alone. All you are is just another brick in the wall ... "
