Health authorities say blood tests confirmed the man had the virus last month after he came down with symptoms. They say he has recovered and was never hospitalized.
The virus is spread through infected mosquitoes.
The chance of contracting it is very low and most humans who do will never have any symptoms. But others may develop fevers, headaches and rashes, and in rare cases muscle weakness, stiff necks and even paralysis.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says the case should be a reminder for people to use bug spray and take other steps to avoid mosquito bites.
Twelve Wisconsin residents had the virus last year.
