Luke Fortney of Altoona, Wis., was northbound on Hwy. 93 about two miles south of Independence when he crossed into the path of a southbound semi driven by Marc Taets, 31, of Geneseo, Ill., about 10:30 a.m., according to the department. He was airlifted to Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, Wis., with leg injuries.
The semi’s load shifted and fell off the trailer, shutting down the road for about 30 minutes.
