City leaders select new HR director

.
Wendy Oestreich, La Crosse's interim director of human resources, has been selected to permanently fill the senior position vacated by Jim Geissner in March.

Oestreich has spent nine years with the city's personnel department after a decade as a human resources generalist in the private sector.
If approved by the common council, her appointment would be effective Sept. 1 with a $76,206 annual salary.

Oestreich was nominated by an assessment panel including Mayor Mark Johnsrud and council members Audrey Kader and Marilyn Wigdahl.

The city reopened the search in May after an earlier leading candidate withdrew her name from consideration, citing personal reasons.

Geissner, now an HR consultant with People First HR Solutions in La Crosse, was tapped to lead that search.

" Since when did the City of La Crosse care if department heads or managers need to be good at their jobs? Good grief Charlie Brown "

" How come Geisner was not 'taped' to find someone to replace him at the end of his time at City Hall. He could have walked him through a lot, and we would not have to pay his new Firm to pay him to do it, while he is collecting near what he made while working from his WRS retirement. 'Frugality'? It is a word. "

" What a one horse town. Sounds like the same old song and dance. One heck of salary for a HR director she must have a doctorate. I hope she knows how to say please and thank you. "
