The Eagles ran to a team score of 205 and fell two spots in the team standings over the final 1,500 meters at the NCAA Division III meet.
“We had our chances, but we couldn’t finish,” UW-L coach Don Fritsch said. “We were fourth going into the last 1,500, but we faded badly.”
Junior Paul Moran placed 48th to lead UW-L with a time of 25 minutes, 11.36 seconds. Junior Connor Lonning added a 60th-place finish (25:18.51). Fritsch said that Moran was 13th and Lonning 16th at one point in the race.
The UW-L women placed eighth out of 31 teams with a score of 154 and were led by junior Katelynn Williams’ 44th-place finish (21:57.48). Senior Megan Johnson was 71st (22:11.81).
Cortland State (80) won the men’s overall title, while Middlebury (179) won the women’s.
NAIA: Viterbo University freshman B.J. McCall finished 150th (26:30.9) at the NAIA national championships in Kenosha, Wis.
