Dolores Jensen
ONALASKA — Dolores Jensen, 68, of Onalaska died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.

She was born Jan. 30, 1940, in New York, N.Y., to Matteo and Sarafina (Margiotta) Pizzonia.

Dolores is survived by a son, Neal Jensen Jr. of New York; two daughters, Anne (Mark) Levano of New York and Jill (fiancé Ryan Roesler) Jensen of Onalaska; her ex-husband, Neal Jensen of Arcadia; a sister, Maria (Henry) Hein of New York; and a brother, Joseph (Marilyn) Pizzonia of New York. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Frank Pizzonia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, La Crosse. The Rev. David Olson will officiate. Entombment will be in Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.

Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Konrath

ONALASKA — Margaret Konrath, 88, of Onalaska passed away Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, in her home with her family by her side.

She was born in Viroqua on April 14, 1920, to Ernest and Birdie (Birkelo) Pierce.

She was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church and also taught Sunday school for many years. Margaret worked for Shopko for 17 years before her retirement. To help the less fortunate, she created beautiful quilts with her friends. A special thanks to her friends, Louise, Eleanor and Ruth.

She married the love of her life, Bill, on Oct. 28, 1940, in Winona, Minn., and they were married for 62 years. He preceded her in death in October 2004.

Margaret is survived by one daughter, Paulette (Thomas) O’Brien of Onalaska; one son, David (Cindy) Konrath of La Crosse; seven grandchildren, Maureen (Chris) Burkle, Kathleen (Warren) Call, Timothy (Becky) O’Brien, Thomas E. O’Brien, Hillary, Jessica and Michael Konrath; five great-grandchildren, Will, Ellie, Alayna, Molly and Maci. In addition, she is survived by four nieces, Mary, Patty, Linda and Tori, and one nephew, Michael, who were like her own children.

Margaret was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to all whose lives she touched always with a caring hug and a shoulder to lean on.

Along with her husband, Bill, she was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Verna.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church, 1931 Loomis St., La Crosse. The Rev. Duane Baardseth will officiate, and burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call at Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 401 Main St., Onalaska, on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. and again at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association, Bethel Lutheran Church and the Franciscan Skemp Hospice Center.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mary, Margaret’s niece, all of her friends at Onalaska Terrace and the Franciscan Skemp Hospice Care nurses for their wonderful care.

Jeanette Lawrie

Jeanette Lawrie, 86, of La Crosse died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. A full obituary will be provided by Dickinson Family Funeral Home, La Crosse.

Betty J. Liethen

ONALASKA — Betty J. Liethen, 71, of Onalaska died in her home Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Dickinson Family Funeral Home, Onalaska, with funeral services at 6:30 p.m. A full obituary will follow.

Mabel ‘Mae’ Oliver

VICTORY — Mabel “Mae” Oliver, 87, died Saturday morning, Nov. 22, 2008, at Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua after suffering a massive stroke the previous evening.

She was born Aug. 16, 1921, at Genoa to Lester and Myrtle (Hay) Huntington. She attended the Newton school and on March 6, 1940, married LeRoy “Pete” Oliver at Waterville, Iowa. They farmed most of their married life until 1961 when they moved to Victory.

She enjoyed wall papering for people, serving as a ballot attendee at elections, store clerk for Redmound and Victory stores, baking and was a very active member of the United Methodist Women at New Hope United Methodist Church at Redmound until her health declined. She had been a resident of Vernon Manor the past four years and was very appreciative of the care and especially the activity department.

Mae is survived by twin daughters, Gloria Warmuth of Victory and Elaine Lampert of Viroqua; three grandchildren, Kristina (Mike) Hoge of Viroqua, Jeff Warmuth of Rochester, Minn., and Sara (Scotte) Meyer of Viroqua; three great-grandchildren, Angela of Colorado, Rebecca of Viroqua and Tanner of Viroqua; a daughter-in-law, Ramona Crook of Viroqua; one sister-in-law, Marie Huntington of Grafton, Wis.; other relatives; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete, on Feb. 8, 1988; three sons, Arlo in infancy, Roger on March 16, 1962, and Gene on June 15, 1978; a sister, Helen Simonson; and five brothers, Earl, Albert, Wilbur, Raymond and Clarence Huntington.

Funeral services will be held at New Hope United Methodist Church on Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Bill Busch officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Mound Cemetery at Retreat, rural De Soto. Friends may call at Thorson-Reetz Funeral Home in Viroqua on Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m., where there will be a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

Verena M. Pfaff

HILLSBORO — Verena M. Pfaff, 74, of Hillsboro died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Memorial Hospital, Hillsboro. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hillsboro. The Rev. Conrad Prell will officiate. Burial will be in Lindina Evergreen Cemetery, rural Mauston, Wis. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Picha Funeral Home, Hillsboro.

Martha ‘Mynda’ Schubbe

ARCADIA — Martha “Mynda” Schubbe, 91, of Arcadia died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Nursing Home in Arcadia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in North Creek, rural Arcadia, with the Rev. Michael Klos officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. A luncheon and fellowship will immediately follow at the church. Friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Wozney-Killian Funeral Home, Arcadia, is assisting the family.

Robert George Weiske

Robert George Weiske, 81, of La Crosse died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at his home. Funeral arrangement are pending with Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Homes, La Crosse. A complete obituary will follow.

Beverly J. Yahnke

Beverly J. Yahnke, 67, of La Crosse died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.

She was born May 4, 1941, in Sparta to Edward and Velma (Straight) Brooks. On Nov. 26, 1957, she married Spencer “Norm” Yahnke in Winona, Minn., and he preceded her in death on July 29, 2004.

They moved to La Crosse in 1963, where Beverly was a nursing assistant for Hillview Health Care Center for 29 years, retiring in 2003.

Beverly is survived by her three children, Cheryl (Joe) Pitsch of Onalaska, Dawn Engen (friend, Steve Vogel) of La Crosse, and Stuart Yahnke of La Crosse; six grandchildren, Nathan, Trevor, Nikki, Justin, Harley and Jacob; two stepchildren, Diana and Spencer; four stepgrandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Lettie (Paul) Daniels of Sparta; one brother-in-law, Floyd Yahnke of Sparta; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Beulah Fick and Rachel Marnach; and one brother, Spencer Brooks.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 1 p.m. at Woodruff-Jandt Funeral Home, 4239 Mormon Coulee Road, La Crosse. Pastor Don Iliff will officiate. Burial will be in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from noon until the time of the services.

The family would like to thank Beverly’s neighbors, Bill and Doris Zimmerman, Larry Jacobs and Eileen Bever for all their help and kindness in the past several years. Also thank you to the Gundersen Lutheran staff, especially, Edna and hospice staff for all their care given to Beverly.
