The weekly crop report from the Minnesota field office the U.S. Department of Agriculture said the corn crop is 97 percent harvested, a bit behind the historical average.
Similarly, the sunflower harvest has reached 95 percent complete, also just trailing the historical average for this time of year.
The report said there were 5½ days suitable for field work last week, and the average temperature was 26.6 degrees. That's more than 3 degrees below average.
Those below freezing temperatures continued to restrict some farmer's ability to till the soil and apply fertilizer.
Statewide, topsoil moisture supplies as of Friday were 1 percent very short, 6 percent short, 77 percent adequate, and 16 percent surplus.
