$18.5 million referendum to address facility needs.
THE DECISION: The La Crosse School Board on Monday approved putting out for bids in early 2009 on the project’s first phase, which will address safety at all facilities, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning at State Road Elementary School and Logan and Longfellow middle schools. The estimated cost is $9.4 million, but officials said only about $5.8 million needs to be financed after Trane’s $600,000 gift and
$3 million in district funds are applied.
WHAT’S NEXT? If bids are approved, work will begin before the end of the school year. At the board’s request, administrators will bring plans for phased II and III to the first January meeting.
