The 35-year-old man had stopped at a Sheboygan residence Sunday night to help friends clean their apartment when he saw the vandals damaging a vehicle parked in front of the building, police said.
He and his friend asked them to stop and then chased the vandals as they ran away. When he caught up and tried to hold the suspects, a confrontation developed and he was seriously injured.
Police found him lying on the pavement unresponsive.
A 19-year-old woman and 21-year-old man, both from Sheboygan, were apprehended several blocks away and are jailed pending formal charges.
Names of those involved haven't been released.
