I'm surprised the Organic Valley is trying to introduce having these there, which means the followers running the Health Center must be in full support. "

" Congrats to Cashton and the forward thinkers of Organic Valley. To the rest of you nay sayers, this is exactly why we found ourselves in the same boat we were in during the Carter years - no one listened or did anything except find reasons why something wasn't perfect. And for all the pro nukes people, do you realize that once Yucca is filled there is a site in Wisconsin to take all of the nuclear waste our country can send us if we begin to build the number of plants that some of you are advoating for? Until the issue of safety and security and storage are addressed we have no business looking at nuclear. To do otherwise would be recklass. "

CHEROKEE COUNTY, S.C. - Duke Energy Chief Executive Jim Rogers said Friday he was growing pessimistic about the company's chances of building a nuclear power plant on schedule - or at all - because of concern over costs and other issues.
Rogers spoke about his doubts to boost his case for building two coal-fired units for the utility's Cliffside facility 55 miles west of Charlotte.
"I'm not a true believer.... We're talking about a renaissance in nuclear. I don't see it," he told members of the N.C. Utilities Commission at a hearing to help determine whether Duke can build. "

" Nuclear Power has never and will never be fossil fuel free. It is a large contributor to greenhouse gases. Pull your head out of the concrete reactor vessel. Nuclear power is created from fossil fuel intensive MINING, PROCESSING, and REFUELING. There is expansive amounts of carbon emitted in every stage of nuclear power--including the construction of the concrete plants themselves. I suppose you believe that the $7 billion spent on digging into Yucca Mt was somehow fossil fuel free. YOU MUST LOOK AT THE ENTIRE FUEL CYCLE. "

If you live near coal mines - use coal. If you live near rivers - use hydroelectric. Nuclear is still WAY too expensive to break even, not to mention the storage problems with the spent waste. "

REGARDING THE WIND TURBINES. WHEN THE WIND SPEED IS TO HIGH YOU CANT RUN THEM. THE ONLY THING VIABLE IS BASE LOAD POWER PLANTS.(PERIOD) UNTIL THERE IS SOME OTHER TECHNOLOGY AVAILABLE THAT IS AS RELIABLE. "

ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THESE WIND TURBINES IS THEY NEED A CERTAIN WIND SPEED TO RUN. NOT SURE WHAT THE RANGE IS. THAT'S WHY WHEN YOU GO BY THESE WIND FARMS YOU SEE THEM SITTING THERE DOING NOTHING. ALSO WHEN ERECTED THEY HAVE HVAC SYSTEMS INSTALLED TO HEAT AND COOL THEM. ITS AMAZING HOW MUCH STATION USAGE THAT THEY USE. ALTHOUGH THEY ARE HELPFUL TO THE GENERATION MIX. THEY ARE NOT THE ANSWER. YOU CANT COUNT ON THEM MEETING SYSTEM DEMAND. SOLAR ETC. ALSO HELP BUT ARE NOT THE ANSWER. WITH THE AGING FLEET OF COAL, NUCLEAR, GAS TURBINES, AND RENEWABLE S. WE NEED START REBUILDING THE INFRASTRUCTURE. "

" More facts.
Nuclear power is very green, no co2 emissions. People have lived within inches on our big Navy ships reactors, it is safe, safest of all power sources. We are forcing people into poverty with our ignorant attitude about Nuclear power. If you can speak off the record with our nations energy leaders even or local ones, they will tell you what I have said is correct and it will happen. Until then we will cause millions of people a great deal of pain by delaying this inevitable generation plan. They can't eat, drive, or stay warm. All of you vocal people who don't know the facts are to blame. "

" Here are some facts. Wind is fine. If you take the incentives and the fact that it can not be relied on for continuous power and its cost it would not have a chance except the Government has mandated it.
Nuclear power is the only answer. We need to build 200 plants, then convert our heating and water heating to electric. Then use excess evening generated power to make hydrogen to power our cars along with natural gas.
I have constant conversations with the worlds most knowledgeable energy experts and this is the only thing that will eliminate our dependence on imported oil. We should be spending all of our stimulus package on this massive program and then at the same time improve our grid to handle it. If we did this oil would drop to $15 a barrel. "

" To: coffee, here's your remedial reading lesson for the day. "The Real World" said that "Wind power will benefit the promoters, and no one else." This seemed like they were writing off wind power as (at best) inefficient, and (at worst) a scam to make money for snake oil salesmen. So, my reply was a sarcastic response, noting that wind power has been utilized quite nicely for 700 years, and should not be written off so quickly. Wind power has been viable for centuries, and labelling it as something that will only "benefit the promoters" is just irresponsible. Hope this clears everything up for you. "

The land where the turbines would go is already owned by Best Energies and Organic, so the acreage is theirs. It's the Cashton Green Business Park. "

" The construction of wind turbines are an exercise in 'see me do good'. They do nothing to aleeviate the need for base loaded power plants, and only add more cross country transmission lines. If you do not believe this, you do not know the actual usefulness of wind turbines (27%). Put this money into battery research, then solar would become the most economical means of heat and electricity. Batteries could also forstall the need to build any new power plants for many years by allowing them to store excess energy during low load periods that would be used during peak load conditions. But no politician nor tree hugger will push this, not politically correct. "

If you think about that...it would take an awful lot of acreage to place all the turbines needed to power up the country...leaving a landscape that some might think is...ugly
I'm no Einstein when it comes to alternative power, but I think solar seems a more practical option. Does anyone here know how that option stacks up? "
