The Capital Planning and Budget Committee approved the additions while meeting Thursday at UW-L.
The donor-funded project already has one anonymous donor who has pledged $250,000, said Al Trapp, acting president of the UW-L Foundation.
“This is a project the university did not initiate, so we are very grateful for the generosity of the donor and hope our foundation can raise the remaining $250,000,” UW-L Chancellor Joe Gow said.
The idea for the additions came from those giving money to the project.
“There were donors who felt what had been designed needed a new, fresh vision to create the kind of content to inspire, educate and do justice to the pride and honor due to our veterans,” Trapp said.
The additions to the hall include a donor wall, two 42-inch LCD displays, banners, veterans plaques and other interior finishing touches, along with an entrance sign to the stadium.
The project is on the Board of Regents consent agenda today, and the State Building Commission is expected to give final approval Dec. 17.
Fundraising for the first phase of the $13.5 million sports complex is complete, but UW-L is still seeking donations to help pay for a $44 million academic building the university plans to break ground for in spring as well as future upgrades to the stadium.
This was the first time since 2000 that the regents have met in La Crosse.
Below are two of the video presentations UW-L officials shared with the regents, one about this fall’s moving-in days and one about UW-L’s physical activity mentoring program:
