THE RUNDOWN: Man injured in strong-arm robbery

.
WHAT HAPPENED? A 67-year-old man told La Crosse police he was on his bicycle near Seventh and Winnebago streets about 7:40 p.m. Wednesday when two men jumped in front of him. One punched him in the face, knocking him to the street, where he hit his head, police reported. The men began going through the victim’s pockets but ran when two people came out of a nearby apartment building. The couple took the man to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, where he was treated for a broken jaw and pelvis, police reported.

WHAT’S NEXT? Police are looking for the two men, but said the victim was unable to give a clear description of his assailants, as he might have been knocked unconscious when he hit the pavement. The victim thought the two might have been black males dressed in black, according to police.

I did not say you were racist. I said you were a simpleton who was incapable of following a thread on a blog, or following a simple thought. Your posting saying I called you racist confirms that thought. "

Racist? I think not to anyone with common sense. Just a direct quote from the paper. "

" Davidinlse: "The man said he believed he was robbed by two black men wearing dark clothes, but he said he could not be certain of the description" That is a direct quote from yesterdays story, maybe you should at least make an effort to read the story before you criticize someone else. You really are an idiot

" Jon Olsen resigned from Northside District months ago. My District. Southside Council President Harden made a unilateral choice not to fill that seat and give representation to those people. After I offered to fill that seat. Where a policeman was stabbed with a screwdriver and then shot by those policeman down 'our' alley, mere feet from where a person was run over/killed and the driver fled the scene, and there was a late night 'shoot-out' just the other night, just to name few 'activities?' Now as our City is being inundated with violent crime, with a large amount of people with recent other addresses, we remain frozen in step by choices made by City Hall and it's current Leaders. At the same time our illustrious Leader/Mayor now panders to us with our flood plain, after four years, and mere days into a Campaign? "

" I would like to illustrate something for you. Councilman Richmond has attempted to construct a formal Neighborhood Organization. An organization that would talk and act on problems like this. What has happened instead is that she has been told it will take over a year to put this together. So recently she spent $380 for a mailing to neighbors, paid for refreshments and drink out of her pocket, and had her own meeting. Now understand this was a Councilman who went down and took it upon herself to enter the Construction Trailer at Riverside Center II and read the truth, 'Banquet Room' off the on site plans. She was also one of two Councilman who were kicked out of an RDA Meeting regarding a project with Tens-of-Millions of our taxpayer money involved? "

" I'm curious about something. The article yesterday said the victim described his assailants as two black men. Today they "might have been" black? Is someone pressuring this victim to alter his story, or to be careful about his description because of the sensitive race issue? I understand he may have hit his head, and the details may be sketchy, but the difference between black and not black?... "

free_speech wrote on Dec 5, 2008 7:27 AM:

" There have been enough of these attacks for the LPD to apply resources toward decoy victims like they do in the New York subway. Place some seemingly handicapped old man in a vulnerable intoxicated looking state in the area and sit on it. I bet they'd catch someone the first night out. "

Sully wrote on Dec 5, 2008 5:58 AM:

" Mama, There is no rule to who can post or not so I guess the people who post have an opinion and care enough to share. The victim of this attack will be hurting for a very, very long time. When should we stop being concerned about it? Meanwhile the thugs are free on our streets. Since they got no money from this poor guy they must still need it. Who's next?
If they are even found I will bet that they have lengthy records including violence. These are not poor displaced workers trying to feed a starving family. They are scum. Obviously they are suffering from a lead deficiency. "

" I have an idea that even our crooked mayor will like. Instead of trying to employ our idle firemen as ambulance drivers, which isn't need or wanted, why not make them reserve police cadets? According to our mayor our fire dept is lacking in work, these idle firemen could patrol these crime infested neighborhoods (most of lacrosse) carrying their fire axes. I have to believe a fireman with an ax would be enough to give pause to any hardened criminal. I still am amazed that the police dept hasn't had a press conference or at least admitted that we are suffering under a crime wave, even the "newspaper" deletes any comments that mention the race of these criminals. Something needs to be done real soon. The next robbery, shooting, mugging, whatever, could easily result in the death of an innocent civilian "

" whoa....whoa....whoa...please let's not offend the la crosse police depts. delicate sensibilities...to the poster who said, "do u know how many squads are on the streets at any one given time?"...let's do this...i'll sit downtown on 3rd street from 2am to 3am any given night and count the squads that go by...then u can sit in the vicinity of the 800 block of south 7th...and then let's compare notes...further, while the lpd is getting state funds to add officers to do underage compliance checks and other showboating tactics; that have little, if any, effect on reducing underage consumption; we read more about innocent people getting robbed at gun point, and now beaten...the taxes la crosse residents pay are a crime...the amount of police protection they get for it... is a sin... "

Krusty3 wrote on Dec 5, 2008 1:19 AM:

" Kimmie, I'll help you out with the hard to read parts of my post. First of all, regarding taxes, Lacrosse is now the highest taxed city in Wisconsin, and Wisconsin is one of the highest taxed state. You would think that with the amount of money we are paying that we would have a robust police force, a large jail, an intelligent police chief, and social programs to keep crime down. We don't, our money is being wasted. The criminals tend to go free on justice sanctions and re-offend or are never caught at all. Criminals from other areas are moving in for the easy pickings here. Now...Can you understand the corralation I was trying to make? If this is the first crime of the sort that you have heard of you haven't been paying the slightest bit of attention. "

kimmie wrote on Dec 5, 2008 12:42 AM:

" What does what happened to this man have to do w/your taxes!? First I've heard of something like this happening in any of the surrounding areas. Maybe you should move to Utopia, voice your opinion over there, get the hell out of the place you are so sorry to live in, hope someone will buy your house so you can get out of your "hellhole". Hope your house sells or you move before someone buys it as you don't sound like a good neighbor... "

Krusty3 wrote on Dec 5, 2008 12:27 AM:

" How many times is this going to happen before the good people of Lacrosse say enough? With the insane amount of taxes we pay we should be living in a Utopia. Imagine if you were someone looking to move to the area...Can you think of a single reason why an outsider would pick Lacrosse over a surrounding community? Low crime? NO, Low taxes? Hell NO, Good Schools? NO, Ease of commuting? NO, It's actually quicker to get to the Mall area from Lacrescent than it is from the south side. Lacrosse is going quickly down the toilet, we need leadership, such as a new mayor and city council and a new police chief to try and salvage anything left. I have had a for sale sign on my house for months, I hope and pray for some idiot to buy it so I can get out of this Hellhole "
