The crash was reported just before 3 p.m. Thursday and caused a traffic backup that extended for miles in the westbound lanes. It continued for hours after a single lane of slow-moving traffic was allowed to pass as crews worked to remove the semi.
The Wisconsin State Patrol said the driver was killed. His name was withheld pending notification of relatives.
The Switzke Road bridge over I-94 sustained structural damage and will be closed indefinitely.
The State Patrol said Thursday evening the westbound interstate had been closed from Highway 67 to Highway 26 but should reopen by 10 p.m.
