A La Crosse man climbed a downtown tree early Saturday and tore a limb for its trunk, telling officers he was "paying the tree back," according to police reports.

Officers found a crowd gathered outside Qdoba, 127 S. Third St., about 3 a.m. and Mitchel Pfaff, 25, up the tree. Pfaff said he sought revenge on the tree because his friend two or three years ago fell from it and cracked his head open, reports stated.

Pfaff was given a $240 ticket for damage to property and $177 ticket for disorderly conduct. He's due in La Crosse Municipal Court on Nov. 27.

To those who might think that La Crosse seems to have gained a reputation for the youth coming into town, getting hammered and acting in strange ways... it was pretty much the same way when my brothers and I would road trip down from St. Paul for 3 day weekends that often had us leaving town, roaring up Hwy 61 with the lights off, in the middle of the night, just ahead of the police who were busy searching the streets, alleys and fleabag dives (like the old Stoddard Hotel). 'Twas always a great time to be had in "La Crosseyed"!!!

The tribune acts as if this is the first time a nut has fallen out of a tree.

Are you sure this isn't supposed to be in the entertainment tab? Tribune needs to learn when some things are just not worth writing about, and the title is just comical. Really, Tribune? All I need to do is climb a tree to get in the paper?

I was told there were at least 10 police officers and 8 firemen on site.
Charge him for all the resources the city already wastes on a daily basis.

    Bad tree. Bad!

Tree-trimming would be appropriate community service.

He already received enough penalty. Chop the tree down. It has caused more harm than pfaff.

We have to have a few nuts to make up the world, I just wish we didn't have so many. It makes the human race look bad to the rest of the animals.
