A disorderly conduct charge is pending against a West Salem man who while drunk pulled a tooth from a 9-year-old boy’s mouth, according to La Crosse police reports.

The child and his mother told officers they were sitting outside Jules Coffee House at 327 Pearl St. about 8 p.m. Sunday when Curtis Baltz, 36, approached.

“What’s wrong with your tooth?” he asked the boy, reports stated.

The child flashed his loose tooth before Baltz flicked it, according to reports. His mother rushed him inside when his mouth filled with blood.

The boy told police it was painful and that he started crying because he was scared.

Baltz told police he had permission to pull the tooth. He also said his father and grandfather were dentists, so he “knew what he was doing,” reports stated.

Baltz had a 0.20 percent alcohol level. His girlfriend told police he does“stupid” things when he’s drunk.

Baltz is due in La Crosse County Circuit Court at a later date.

Really? He is an adult that was drunk and put his hands on a child that was not his. If h touched your kid you all would be asking for thw max. He deserves ir.

Suppose this individual was a dentist. Wouldn't the outrage then be directed at the fact that someone competent to do a good deed, who was trying to do a good deed, was arrested. Would the BAL (which means what exactly?) be relevant then? I don't think so. If you agree with me there, then perhaps you'll agree that you don't necessarily have to be a dentist to help a child with a loose tooth, and so the same analysis that would apply in the case of a dentist also applies in the case of a stranger when there's no evidence of any motivation besides offering assistance.

Was this child's tooth removed without harm (besides possible psychological harm attendant to reaction to the tooth's removal)? If so, no harm no foul should be the rule. A little bit of blood upon removal of a loose tooth should not, imo, by regarded as harm unless your standard dentist, given an accurate description of the situation, would regard it as harm.

BAL? Blood Alcohol Level. Yes Curtis, this would still be story if it was a dentist, a bigger story actually. Drunk Dentist Pulls Child's Tooth, without authorization to do so. A strange drunk man putting his hands in a young child's mouth, is NOT a good deed. One must really question your definition of good deeds.
Child Abuse charges should be charged in this case.

Guido is the guy in question, that is why he continues to make comments on this, he deserves to be arrested.
RK is his girlfriend. A whole lot of strange herself.

At least you could have done with comments was use a different screen name, and yeah of course been less obvious.

Not smart if its not his child. Really stupid to charge him with anything if it was a baby tooth, how many people had their parents "help" them with loose teeth? a few drops of blood and the pain caused by the loose tooth goes away along with the tooth.

Is this the same guy that has previous charges for disorderly conduct and other convictions?

guess what was going to happen if he didn't "flick" the tooth??? it was still gonna come out and his mouth would fill with blood and the child would cry and be frightened! lets see it happened 48 times in my life as a parent and we're all here safe and sound to tell about it!

I am SO SICK of the "awwww he wuz jus' drinkin'" excuse for bad behavior. Again, "His girlfriend told police he does“stupid” things when he’s drunk." This means this is not the first time. Just because his drinking buddies are defending him, doesn't negate the fact that he was ARRESTED for his actions. "His mother rushed him inside when his [the boy's] mouth filled with blood." according tot he police report, not the "witness." Grow up.

Excuse me, My grandfathers a doctor, I'll fix that ruptured appendix right up for you! I think it is about personal space not intent. If the mother or kid wanted help they would have asked. It doesn't appear that either asked for help from an intoxicated person walking by. Just a thought. hmmmmm

Fair enough. It was a mistake. And I feel he realizes that. Already.

What I find hilarious is all the people on here calling him a loser. This man does more good in this community than all the posters here. And from reading the daily posts on stories on this site, I'd wager a heck of a lot smarter also. Assault and battery? What a joke.

About as "stupid" as the arresting officer with a mohawk. Troll. Look at all your replies to posts. "In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by trying to start arguments and upset people.[1]. They may do this by posting deliberately inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[3] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion."

This has been very stressful, for all of his friends & family, who are worrying about him right now. :(. The article blew the whole event, that occured, out of proportion. And it is sad.

Well, perhaps the report, and reporter said two different things."pulled a tooth" hardly..."Flicked a tooth" as the actual report said, maybe, but it wasn't even that. Blood, sure, about 4 drops as the tooth was hanging there. Loser? No, working man who pays my taxes and does a lot of great things for many people, donating time, money, food, work, etc.... This was taken out of context, and it was overreacted on. Innocent until proven guilty? You bet. Mistake made, yes. Assault and Battery, dude, you didn't even see it.

To not make false assumptions, over an overly dramatized article.

Alright, for all you people, who weren't even there to witness it... I was actually there, & this is how it happened. He was standing outside, at the coffeeshop. And was being friendly, & socializing. And didn't realize that, he was hurting the boy, by touching, his teeth that we coming in. The boy, then touched his gums. And made them bleed a little. Admittedly, this was a wrong thing for him to do. It was foolish. He should've known better. ...Yet, if you honestly, weren't there to witness the situation. Who are you to judge, & make things worse for this person? ...The guy, felt really bad. And terrible about it, almost immediately, when he realized, he hurt the child. And he tried to apologize. And the mother said, just give him 5 bucks, like the tooth fairy. And the mother, actually said, not to worry about it. These are her exact words. And I was there, at the coffeeshop, sitting near during that time. To witness it. So I'd honestly, appreciate, since I do know this person...

"His girlfriend told police he does“stupid” things when he’s drunk." Sounds like she's not much smarter to put up with him.

Who is the greater loser - the loser or the one who knows he's a loser but stays with him anyway?

Disorderly conduct was not the charge I was considering when reading this story. How about assault and battery on a child?

Offensive, comments, directed towards individuals you've never met, once in person, in your whole entire life, are pretty dis-respectful... Honestly, if you have a little bit of wisdom, you'll know not to feed into stuff, that people write about other people, to 'entertain', & 'mislead'.
