Clothes Mentor, an upscale resale store for women, will open within a few months in Suite A at 1226 Crossing Meadows Drive, the former Blockbuster Video space in the Crossing Meadows shopping center in Onalaska.

Mary Smith of Holmen has purchased a franchise from the Minnetonka, Minn.-based chain of about 140 stores. The stores buy and sell high-quality, gently-used name-brand and designer clothing, shoes and accessories for women, she said.

“Our business provides customers with a great shopping experience with ever-changing inventory at a tremendous value,” Smith said.

“We are looking to be open to buy (items) Oct. 10,” she said. It usually takes two to three months to purchase inventory, she said, adding that she hopes to be selling to the public in December. Smith recommends checking the store’s website at www.clothesmentor.com/onalaska-wi and Facebook page for updates. The store’s telephone number is 608-781-3358.

Twinkle and Twine Design at 1514 Market St. will have its grand opening Sept. 16-17 with refreshments, snacks and a daily giveaway.

The business, which opened in April next to Inspired, is a gift package service and retailer that offers what owner Nicole Uecker calls “gifts with a twist.” She said its focus is crafting creative and memorable gift packages out of a wide range of handmade and curated goods.

“In addition to having several pre-designed packages, (the shop) also offers the option of a custom gift package, allowing the customer to choose the goods themselves and we’ll add the ‘twist,’” Uecker said.

“I opened Twinkle and Twine because I have a gift for gifting; whether big or small, I love to wow the recipient,” she said. Everyone appreciates a thoughtful, unique gift, she added. “Special occasions like birthdays and holidays, housewarmings and gratitude gifts are just a few examples of gift packages we can create.”

The store typically is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, with limited hours Saturday and other times by appointment. For updates and special shopping events, visit www.twinkleandtwinedesign.com or the store’s Facebook page. Its telephone number is 608-304-5440.

After a one-year absence, Erbert and Gerbert’s Sandwich Shop returned to La Crosse with the Aug. 26 opening of its location in the Union Market on the first floor of the Kumm Center at 400 N. Sixth St. at Western Technical College.

Erbert and Gerbert’s most recently had a shop in the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Cartwright Center from 2012 to 2015.

Western has a franchise agreement with the chain, said Dan Murphy, the college’s director of food service. It was important to choose a restaurant brand that would be sure to appeal to Western students, he said.

Starting Tuesday, hours at the new Erbert and Gerbert’s will be 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday when college is in session. It will be closed on Saturday and Sunday and summer and break hours will vary, Murphy said.

The new parking lot (Lot M) outside the Coleman Center has several limited-term visitor parking spots, which gives the public time to go in and grab a sandwich.
