Holmen High School’s annual Dancing With the Sports Star raised $10,000 for student Jack Teegan, who is undergoing medical treatments for leukemia.
The Holmen Middle School student’s mother Libby Teegan was presented with a check for $10,000 to help with her son’s medical expenses after the event, which was held Monday before a packed house at the high school’s Fine Arts Center.
This was the fifth year the high school Sports and Entertainment Marketing Class organized and presented the dance contest. The 13 Holmen High School athletes who participated were paired with members of the high school’s dance team to compete for the top three places and for the People’s Choice selection.
“We at Holmen High School are extremely proud of our Sports and Entertainment students and their instructor, Hailey Hesselberg,” said Holmen High School Principal Bob Baer. “We are also proud of the student body for helping to make this a successful night and the entire Holmen community for all of its support for this annual event. We as a school are extremely happy to be able to help out the Teegan family.”
Since the Sports and Entertainment Marketing Class class has been holding the event, more than $30,000 has been raised to help a member of the School District of Holmen family struggling with medical or other challenges.
This year’s top finisher was the dance duo of Madelyn Bausch and Mitchell Torud taking first with their hip hop routine. Taking second place were Carley Seidel and Kade Steinbrecher performing a swing number and the team of Amber Wuensch and Connor Duncan placed third with their pom routine.
Jessica Lager and Abe Molling were selected as the Peoples’ Choice couple performing a lyrical dance.
Other performers were the teams of Jena Powers and Jack Westcott doing a ribbon dance, Haley Henson and Sam Cornforth doing a jazz number, Emma Keenan and Trevor Plomedahl doing a hip hop routine; Alexa Breske and Jimmy Gillespie dancing ballet, Avery Senn and Cameron Weber doing a jazz piece, Mara Friesen and Noah Price performing a modern dance, Lindsay Sake and Alex Pellowski presenting a musical theatre number, Madison Twitchell and Peyton LaMere dancing to a country tune, and Maddy Arent and Nick Post stepping to a jazz routine.
