David Wulf: Trump’s recklessness should come as no surprise
Recently I saw a bumper sticker on a car which read “ GOP – What Were You Thinking?”
Donald Trump has proven himself to be a chaotic, narcissistic and reckless president who spins a lie every day. But we knew that about Trump before last year’s election. It was apparent to anyone who was paying attention that Trump was deceitful about his finances, disrespectful to anyone who didn’t worship him and a demagogue in the extreme. Trump promised to “drain the swamp” in Washington, DC. All we see is him filling the swamp with sycophants who must swear loyalty to him before getting a job.
Republicans at the national and state levels who once touted balanced budgets and responsible governing are an endangered species. Today’s cadre of far-right Republicans don’t give a hoot about never-ending deficits that will turn the USA into the next Greece if we aren’t careful.
As for Republican climate change deniers, this is willful ignorance akin to Nero fiddling while Rome burned. The rest of the world’s countries look to America to exert leadership in tackling big problems. If Trump wants to Make America Great Again, he is doing the opposite with his reckless actions.
