I have lived all my life in the Fish Creek Valley and Rockland area.

I could never imagine that the small creek on Kale Road could become a raging river.

On my way to work in the early dark hours on July 20, without warning, my car hit the flooding waters and was swept away by the current, coming to stop in the nearby cornfield.

I am thankful to God for guarding and protecting me and also protecting my family.

Thank you to the 911 emergency assistance, La Crosse County Sheriff's Department, Rockland-Bangor Fire Department and backup assistance from the West Salem Fire Department for my safe rescue.

Thank you to all of our emergency personnel and volunteers who risk their lives every time they respond to a call.

I live in a great community, and it was reassuring to see familiar faces bring me to safety. I truly am thankful to be alive.
