BRICE PRAIRIE/WEST SALEM — Daniel “Dan” Lee Hesselberg, 57, of Brice Prairie, formerly of West Salem passed away while fishing in Sparkling Lake, Ontario, Canada, Tuesday, May 30, 2017.
He was born Sept. 4, 1959, to Joseph and Barbara (Balmer) Hesselberg at St. Anne’s Hospital, La Crosse. Dan graduated from West Salem High School in 1977. He married his soul mate and love of his life, Mindy Helming June 23, 2000. Dan was previously married to Nancy Wehrcamp and to this union was born a daughter, Danielle Jo. Upon marrying Mindy, Dan gained another daughter, Sarah.
Dan worked for the railroad, Labors Local 140. He later became an operating engineer Local 139. Dan then worked for NSP/Excel Energy until his retirement.
Dan was very proud of the fact he was an Eagle Scout. His passion was visiting with family and friends, never meeting a stranger. Dan was always willing to toast a beer with family and friends. His love for fishing started with his Grandpa Fritz, his dad and brothers, which he passed on to his grandsons. Dan loved shooting trap and was member of the Coulee Trap League for 29 years. He was an avid Packers fan and Mindy was an avid Vikings fan, making for some very interesting games. Dan was so proud of being able to spend his retirement time with his mother and father in Arizona, where he, Mindy and Dad spent countless days exploring the Superstition Mountains on his four wheeler and jeep.
