ONALASKA — Janet Ruth Evenson, 68, of Onalaska, formerly of Costa Mesa, Calif., passed away at her home on Jan. 8, 2012.
She was born Dec. 15, 1943, to Albert and Elsie (Ringe) Evenson in Eau Claire, Wis. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. Janet was joined in marriage to George Cunnings Jr. in Orange, Calif., on June 16, 1967.
Following graduation from Eau Claire Memorial High School in 1960, Janet earned her medical laboratory technician certification in Minneapolis. She enjoyed a technician career in both California and Wisconsin for over 25 years. Janet liked travel and adventure- from camping in the Grand Canyon and Yosemite, horseback riding and hiking in Zion National Park, to cable car riding and shopping in San Francisco. During her travels, she always sought out a new bell for her collection. When raising her family, Janet was the den leader of her son’s Cub Scout pack, leader in her daughter’s Indian Maiden group and always active in their school’s PTA and sports organizations. She will always be remembered for being a fantastic cook. She loved making family recipes of lasagna, talarino, chili, pea soup, kuchen, fudge, and all sorts of delicious cookies.
Janet is survived by her husband, George; daughter and son in law, Carrie and Darryl Oliver of Costa Mesa, Calif.; sister, Lois Mundinger of La Crosse; her grandchildren, Dylan and Caden Oliver, both of Costa Mesa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her son, George Cunnings III; her sisters, Gayle Hynes, Betty Burr, and Carol Halland; and her brother, John Evenson.
