BARNES - Ruth, 93, Jackson, Tenn., died on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, at her residence. Her memorial services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with Bob Barnes officiating. Ruth was born in Benton Co., Tenn. on Aug. 22, 1914, the daughter of the late Houston and Alice Nordin Hatley. She was married to Johnie Barnes who preceded her in death. She was a member of Believer's Fellowship of Jackson. Survived by her son, Bob Barnes (Rillis) of Jackson; brothers, Dale Hatley, Ohio; Ellis Hatley, Memphis; Ray Hatley, Olive Branch; James Hugh Farris, Alabama; grandchildren, Jeffrey Barnes of Martinsville, Va. and Kathryne Barnes of Old Hickory, Tenn. and great-grandchildren, Nathan Barnes, Lindsay Barnes, Sarah Barnes and Hadley Barnes. BOLING - "Billy" Wayne, 56, Hickory Flat, passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, at his home after a long illness. Boling was born Feb. 9, 1951, in Ruleville, Miss., was a Baptist and an Army veteran. Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29 at the funeral home with burial in New Bethlehem Cemetery in Horn Lake. GREENWAY - Daron, 42, Memphis, passed away tragically in a motor vehicle accident in Memphis. He was a paramedic with Baptist Memorial Hospital-Tipton in Covington, was a former volunteer firefighter with Eudora Fire Department of Eudora, Miss., former member of the Desoto County Search and Rescue Squad, a former reserve deputy with the Desoto County Sheriff's Department and dedicated his life to his work, helping save people and making a difference in someone's life. Preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and June Greenway. Survived by his daughters, Amber and Ashley Greenway, both of Southaven; brother, Sterlyn "Scott" Greenway of Millington. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25 at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26 at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel, with the interment following at Memphis Memory Gardens. HALL - A.N., 83, Walls, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at DeSoto Baptist Hospital after a brief illness. Hall, originally from Choctaw County, served our nation as a coxswain in the U.S. Navy at Pearl Harbor during World War II. He later worked with his brother, Bill, and other family members building custom homes and remodeling in Tunica for 40 years. Preceded in death by his parents, Frankie and A.N. Hall; and sisters, Avonell Dean and Georgia Ruth Henson. Survived by his wife of 20 years, Julia E. Hall; sisters, Shirley Edwards and Faye Morgan; brothers, Gerald Hall, Bob Hall, and Bill Hall; son, Steve Hall (Debra); daughter, Kittianne Velloff (Gene); step-sons, Stanley Thompson (Patti) and Sidney Thompson (Jennifer); grandchildren, Stephanie Hall, Kelly Leggett, Jennifer Ruiz, and Jonathan Hall; and great-grandchildren, Joseph, Jordan, and Kyra. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29 and from 10:30 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30 at Minor Memorial United Methodist Church in Walls, where Hall was an active member. Hall was a gentle, compassionate man of deep convictions who will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.
IRELAND - First Sgt. Edwin A., 78, Southaven, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - DeSoto. Visitation was at 11 a.m. with the funeral service following at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25 at Garner Funeral Home in Ripley, Tenn. Burial, Woodville Cemetery. Ireland was retired from the United States Marine Corps after 25 years of service. He then later served as Security Officer for Rhodes College in Memphis for 23 years. Survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Elise Stanley Ireland; daughters, Freida McClellan of Southaven and Sandra Hoover of Hernando; son, James Ireland of Gaithersburg, Md.; sister, Charlene Ireland of Maine; brothers, Teddy and Paul of Maine, and Vernon of Fla.; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
KNOX - Mary Lynn McCain, 85, Memphis, died Jan. 23, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis. She retired from U.T. Medical School and Centralia Insurance and was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Widow of Castle Redford Knox, and survived by her children, Sherry Knox Barry (Bill), Tampa, Fla.; Castle R. NORDAN - Albert "Earl," 79, Blytheville, Ark., died Jan. 19, 2008, at his home. He was born in Darling, Miss. on Oct. 1, 1928, to Leo Vardamen Nordan and Lula Dill Nordan. Earl graduated from the Drew Public Schools. He joined the United States Navy at age 17 and served two years on the U.S.S Tanner. He used his GI benefits to attend Mississippi State University and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Animal Science. After his graduation, he became a Journeyman meat cutter for the Kroger Company. He completed his apprenticeship in one year rather than the usual three years. He worked as a meat cutter for Kroger stores in Miss., Ark., and Tenn. and retired after 47 years with Kroger. Earl moved to Southaven in the mid-1960s and remained there until 2001. Earl and his wife moved to Westminster Village in Blytheville in 2001. They both loved Blytheville and "the Village" and Earl soon became a volunteer in the Village Wood Shop. Earl was of the Methodist faith. Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Jean Waldrup; and son, Jim Nordan. Survived by his wife, Joyce Hayes Nordan; daughters, Leslie Acred (Cliff), Southaven; Robin Still (Stan), Huntsville, Ala.; and Melanie Williams; sons, Randall Wheeler of Memphis and Steven Nordan. Earl made the decision to donate his body to the Genesis Gift of Life Program with the Medical Education and Research Institute in Memphis, TN. A private memorial service followed cremation. Earl requested memorials be made to the Blytheville Animal Humane Shelter at P.O. Box 1855, Blytheville, AR 72315.

WELKER - Thomas Kenneth, 65, Memphis, passed away Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis. Born in Little Rock, Ark., but grew up in Jackson, Tenn., and was a graduate of Lambuth College. He never met a stranger in his life and could often be found at the municipal golf courses with his friend, Ray searching for golf balls. Member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was a loving husband, hero to his children, and will be missed by all. Survived by his wife of 43 years, Dorothy Jane; sons, Christopher Scott Welker (Judy) of Piperton, Tenn. and Timothy Daniel Welker (Denise) of Olive Branch; brothers, David Lee Welker (Marion) of Bangor, Maine and James Paul Welker (Pat) of Garland, Texas; and a host of other loving family members and friends.
