La Crescent author Ross Phelps will lead a book discussion starting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Pearl Street Books, 323 Pearl St.

His first novel “Lleyellyn” was a finalist for the 2014 Midwest Book Awards in the mystery/thriller category.

The second book in the Lleyellyn Shay series, “Two Shots Quick,” was published in February.

In “Lleyellyn,” the action takes place in Winona, Perrot State Park on the north side of La Crosse County, and Miles City, Montana.

“Two Shots Quick” takes place in Montana and South Dakota, with a feature film coming using Lleyellyn’s Montana cattle ranch as a set. After Lleyellyn’s girlfriend is attacked, he and his ranch foreman start digging and encounter a web of other unsolved crimes.

Phelps is a retired attorney who splits his time between La Crescent and Arizona. His book talk is free and open to all.
