A neighborhood block party and blues festival is planned for Saturday, Aug. 26, to celebrate the opening of the new Gundersen Hotel & Suites at 1520 Clinic Court on the Gundersen Health System campus in La Crosse.

The free event runs from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the parking lot, with acclaimed singer/songwriter and blues guitarist extraordinaire Samantha Fish as the headlining act.

Samantha Fish

After making her recorded debut in 2011 on “Girls With Guitars,” a joint project with two other female blues artists, Fish released “Runaway” that same year. The album earned the Kansas City native Best Artist Debut honors at the 2012 Blues Music Awards in Memphis. This year, she released her fourth solo album, “Chills and Fever.”

Music gets started at 5 p.m. with The Shufflin’ Duprees, followed by Howard “Guitar” Luedtke and Blue Max at 6:30 p.m. and Fish at 8 p.m.

People who want to sit are welcome to bring their own chairs. Food and soft drinks will be available for purchase from Famous Dave’s and Stumpy’s, which offers “fair” food.
