Merchants Bank in La Crescent raised a total of $2,606 and 550 pounds of food during its Food Explosion, held in conjunction with La Crescent’s Applefest celebration.
The bank collected non-perishable food items and cash in its bank lobby for the week leading up to the King Apple Parade on Sunday, September 17. During the parade, Merchants Bank staff, friends and family walked the parade route and collected “a buck for the food shelf truck,” as well as food items.
The food and money collected were then donated to the La Crescent Food Share. In addition to the time and effort of staff, the overall donation included a $1,000 match from Merchants Bank. This is the eighth year that Merchants Bank has been collecting donations as part of the Food Explosion.
