LA CRESCENT, Minn. — Glenn M. Gerdes, 82, of La Crescent died Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.
He was born Nov. 27, 1934, in La Crosse, to Michael and Helen (Nagle) Gerdes. Glenn married Shirley Herberg Sept. 7, 1963. He ran a junkyard and trailer park for many years, and then worked at Charlie Brothers Manufacturing and then Mathy Construction, until his retirement. Glenn was an excellent bowler his entire life and after retirement became an avid golfer. He was one of the handiest guys around and could do anything. Together he and Shirley delivered Meals on Wheels for 25 years.
He is survived by three cousins, Jim and Angie Hofer, Verna Gerdes, and Charlotte Gerdes; two sisters-in-law, Mary (Adrian) Morchinek and Georgia (Carl) Lee; a brother-in-law, David Herberg; several nieces and nephews; and his special friends, Harlan Nelson, Richard (Marcia) Nissalke, John (Cindy) Scheil, Wayne (Judy) Erdman and Richard (Karen) Morchinek. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, La Crescent. Pastor Kent Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Lincoln Cemetery, Whitehall. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the church.
