LA CRESCENT, Minn. — Lillian M. Hofer, 96, of La Crescent died at Mayo Franciscan Healthcare in the care of her family Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017.

She was born March 1, 1921, in Onalaska to Genevieve (Marcou) and Cleveland Jolivette. She married Edward Hofer Jan. 2, 1943, at St. James Catholic Church in La Crosse. They were married for 63 years.

Lil was valedictorian of her Onalaska High School class and attended Vocational School in La Crosse after high school. She and Ed raised a family of eight children. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years and retired from the Jerry Morrison Accounting firm. Lil enjoyed gardening, reading and needle work.

Lil is survived by four daughters, Lynn (Dave) Holtze of La Crosse, Katherine (Tom) Edwards of Black River Falls, Terri Hofer of La Crescent, and Beth (Steve) Deneau of North St. Paul, Minn.; two sons, Steve (Margaret) Hofer of Prior Lake, Minn., and Tom (Mary) Hofer of La Crosse; along with one son-in-law, Joe Justman of La Crescent. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren. Surviving siblings include John Jolivette of West Salem; Theresa Arntson of Las Vegas, Nev., Rose (Ray) Reinl of Furlong, Pa., and Mary Ekern of La Crosse.

Lil is preceded in death by her husband, Ed; her son, Michael; and her daughter, Jean Justman; as well as her parents; two brothers, and two sisters and several in-laws. Lil was a loving and hard-working mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, at the Church of the Crucifixion in La Crescent. Fr. Gregory Havel will officiate. Entombment will be in the St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum, Catholic Cemetery in La Crosse. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent and from 9:30 a.m. Friday, until the time of service at the church. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday.
