Nancy L. Listiak, 68, of La Crescent, passed away Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.
She was born in Hermantown on Aug. 2, 1943, to Tracy and Elma (Syria) Hage. Following her graduation from the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 1961, Nancy worked as a social worker with St. Louis County Welfare, Catholic Charities in Grand Forks, N.D., and public Welfare in Omaha, Neb. She married Richard Listiak in Duluth on June 18, 1966. After moving to La Crescent in 1971, Nancy took care of her wonderful family. She was very active in the community donating her time and talents to so many. She helped screen children at the elementary school, served six years on the school board, was active with her church serving meals, making her famous Mississippi Brittle (which she loved to gift) and was an avid Bridge player, bowler and golfer. In 1991, Nancy was named La Crescent Applefest Woman of the Year. She spent countless hours volunteering with organizations such as Meals on Wheels and most recently with the Gundersen Lutheran Radiation Oncology Department for 11 years where she was famous for bringing her Thursday morning treats. Nancy also loved shopping and was the best at finding good deals. She was an avid aminal lover, especially when it came to the family dogs.
She touched many people’s lives with her grace, humility, sensitivity and compassion. If there was anyone deserving of a lifetime achievement award it was Nancy. “Mom, you dun good. You will be missed forever.”
In addition to her husband Richard of La Crescent, she is survived by one daughter, Sarah (Matt) Komperud of Onalaska, Wis.; one son, Michael (Annie) Listiak of St. Louis Park; four grandchildren, Zachary, Natasha, Sam and Aleya; her mother, Elma Hage of Hermantown; two sisters, Judy Patton of Duluth and Mary (Jerry) Hallsten of Duluth. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one brotherm Tracy.
A Mass if Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, March 1, at the Church of The Crucifixion in La Crescent. The Rev. Gregory Havel will officiate. Burial will follow in the Crucifixion Cemetery, La Crescent. Friends may call at the church on Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation.

Donna Meyer, 75, of New Albin, Iowa, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at Thornton Manor Nursing Home in Lansing, Iowa.
