A man was taken into custody after law enforcement found eight handguns along with meth in the SUV he was driving Monday at about 8 p.m. off of Hwy. 44 in Houston County, according to law enforcement. As of Tuesday afternoon he had not been charged, according to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office.

The La Crosse Police Department had a felony arrest warrant out for the man, La Crescent Police Chief Douglas Stavenau said. There were three passengers in the vehicle and after they left the scene, law enforcement found handgun ammunition on the seat. They obtained a search warrant and seized eight handguns, according to the department. One of the guns was confirmed as stolen, Stavenau said. Law enforcement also found .23 grams of meth and paraphernalia.

Houston County Sheriff’s Office was the primary agency and La Crescent police assisted at the scene.

The incident is under investigation and no further information was available at press time.
