Sylvan Fix: Goodbye to the American Legion Hall
It is so close to that time when the American Legion will be shutting down the current building and eagerly awaiting the construction of the La Crescent Event Center.
Jan. 5 will be the last full day of operation. There will be Tom and Jerry’s New Year’s Day, bar bingo on Tuesday, open Wednesday, meat raffle Thursday, fish fry Friday and then the doors will be closed. What a bittersweet moment that will be.
After being in the same facility for over 70 years, it is time for a change, not only for the American Legion, but also for the residents of the city of La Crescent and the surrounding area. The American Legion Family is not going anywhere, and we will be allowed the use of a large room to hold our monthly meetings.
If the event center does not not have a function scheduled, then we will have our steak fries and the SAL will have their omelet breakfast at no cost for the use of the facility. The legion will have the same gambling license for the facility, and we are also working on having meat raffles at the Sports Hub in downtown La Crescent, and are currently doing a meat raffle at Saxon Hall every other Thursday.
Thank you for the years of support, and we look forward to your continued support.
