Edward Charles Lofgren, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, at Pineview Care Center in Black River Falls.

He was born July 7, 1924, in Cicero, Ill. Ed graduated high school from J. Sterling Morton East in Cicero, at age 16. He served in the Army as a marine engineer from 1942 until 1946, repairing many ships during World War II. He married Willetta Heitschmidt, the love of his life, June 12, 1948, in Downers Grove, Ill. Ed started work at Commonwealth Edison in 1947 until 1983, in 1969, they bought a farm near Franklin, which became Greenleaf Farms, he commuted back and forth to Illinois from Melrose, every weekend for 14 years. Ed and Willetta shared a happy, loving, life together for 51 years, until her passing Oct. 23, 1999. Ed was a member of the Upper Beaver Creek Church, president of the saddle club and was always willing to help out at any community functions.

Ed is survived by his four children, Gail (Geno) of Chandler, Ariz., Nancy (Ed), of Melrose, Ed (friend, Angie), of Melrose and Eric (Kim) of Taylor; 12 grandchildren, Todd, Joey, Jamie, Tammy, Jenny, Angie, Zach, Jake, Bobbi, Trude, Brittany and Bubba; 11 great-grandchildren, Anna, Abby, Lexi, Lilly, Lilah, Keegan, Kellen, Henry, Lincoln, Castin and Benett.

Services were held at Upper Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, Friday, Oct. 20 with military honors.
