MELROSE — Gary Duane Hass, 69, of Melrose passed away Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.
He was born in La Crosse, June 12, 1948, to Alden and Leone (Kromke) Hass. Gary and his brothers owned and operated the Hass Brothers Logging and Tracking Company, from 1975 to 1985 in the La Crosse area. He also worked other jobs, including Fort McCoy Army Lodging until his retirement. Gary loved to spend time outdoors, hunting and spending time with his dog, Queeny.
He is survived by a sister, Karen (Harvey) Wolter of West Salem; brother, Jerry Hass of Melrose; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; three half-sisters; and one half-brother.
A memorial service was at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Jostad Chapel, 121 N. Youlon St., West Salem. The Rev. Joel Neumann will officiate. A visitation was from 11 a.m until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be sent at www.jandtfredrickson.com.
